Chapter at a Glance and Activity

•What is this chapter about?

This is the opening chapter of the Grade 7 textbook Curiosity. It tells us that science is not just a set of facts. It is a process — a way of thinking.

A good science learner:

  • asks questions like How, Why and What if,
  • does activities and experiments,
  • observes patterns in nature, and
  • understands that all branches of science are interconnected.

The chapter also gives a short tour of the topics we study this year: acidic and basic substances, electricity, metals and non-metals, physical and chemical changes, adolescence, heat transfer, time and motion, life processes in animals and plants, light and shadows, and the Earth, Moon and Sun.

The page numbers of the book follow the flight of a butterfly and a paper plane. Just as a paper plane takes flight, learning takes flight when curiosity leads the way.
