  • (1)
  • (2)
  • (3)
  • (4)
Why: In figures (1), (2) and (4) the shape is divided into 3 equal parts. In figure (3) the middle part is bigger than the two end parts. So (3) is the odd figure.
64.Select the odd figure. Four similar figures (1) to (4).
  • (1)
  • (2)
  • (3)
  • (4)

67.In the given figures there is a specific order. Observe the order and find out the figure to replace the question mark. Three figures with arrows, a square and a triangle, and four answer figures.
  • (1)
  • (2)
  • (3)
  • (4)
Why: The arrows turn: right-down, left-down, left-up, so next is right-up. The square moves bottom-right, top-right, top-left, so next is bottom-left. The triangle moves top-right, bottom-right, bottom-left, so next is top-left. Figure (4) shows this.
68.Which group of symbols will occur at the place of question marks in the given series of symbols?

  • (1) △ < + + ○
  • (2) △ ○ + + ○
  • (3) + > < △ ○
  • (4) ○ < > △ +
Why: Split into groups of five: < + > △ ○ | > △ ○ < + | ○ < + > △ | + > △ ○ < | △ ○ < + >. Each group is the same five symbols moved round. The missing ones are △, ○, +, +, ○.

  • (2) 161
  • (3) 117
  • (4) 299
Why: From 161 the numbers go up by 46: 161, 207, 253, 299. So the first term should be 161 − 46 = 115, not 117.
70.Find the wrong term in the given number series.
170, 178, 194, 206, 218
  • (1) 218
  • (2) 178
  • (3) 194
  • (4) 206
Why: The numbers go up by 12: 194, 206, 218. So 170 + 12 = 182 should come second, not 178. The MSCE final answer key accepts (2) 178 or (4) 206.

  • (1) 11
  • (2) 14
  • (3) 12
  • (4) 13
Why: Count with the corner points. Triangles that have the right corner as a vertex: 10. Triangles without it: 3 (two on the left with the upright lines, and one small one where an upright line crosses a slanting line). Total = 10 + 3 = 13.
75.Find the total number of squares in the given figure. A square figure with small squares along the left side and the bottom.
  • (1) 10
  • (2) 13
  • (3) 14
  • (4) 12
Why: Small squares: 5 on the left side and 5 more at the bottom = 10. Squares of 2 × 2 small squares at the bottom = 2. The big square made by the top four rows = 1. Total = 13.
