About this Chapter: This chapter asks you to look at photographs (such as a rose, a squirrel, a school girl, a bird, ice cream, a doll, and a cricket ball) and write short descriptions using your five senses: sight, sound, touch, smell, and taste.
Below are 8 short descriptions based on the photographs shown in the textbook, making use of sensory words as suggested.
1. The Red Rose
The photograph shows a beautiful, bright red rose. Its petals look smooth and feel soft like velvet. It has a very sweet and fresh fragrance that makes the air smell nice. It is quiet and completely still.
2. The Squirrel
A small, striped squirrel is eating a piece of fruit on a window sill. It has a fluffy, soft tail and sharp little claws. I can almost hear the faint "crunch-crunch" sound as it nibbles its juicy food quickly.
3. The School Girl
A young girl is sitting quietly on a bright yellow wooden bench. She is wearing a red and white uniform and carrying a heavy, blue backpack. The wooden bench looks hard and firm. I can imagine hearing the distant, loud chatter of other children in the school.
4. The Colourful Vases
The picture shows many tall, shiny vases arranged closely together. They are beautifully coloured in bright red, green, yellow, and deep blue. They look very smooth, cool, and hard to the touch.
5. The Singing Bird
A tiny, lovely bird with a bright orange chest is perched on a rough tree branch. Its beak is wide open as it sings. I can imagine hearing its sweet, high, and melodious chirping echoing in the fresh morning air.
6. The Ice Cream
A huge scoop of pink strawberry ice cream sits on a golden, crunchy cone. It looks freezing cold, sweet, and absolutely delicious. I can almost taste its yummy, creamy, and fruity flavour melting in my mouth.
7. The Cricket Ball
The photograph shows a shiny, bright red cricket ball resting against a rocky surface. The ball is perfectly round, hard, and firm with a thick white stitch around its middle. It smells faintly of dry, new leather.
8. The Doll
A cute little doll with a bright yellow hat and golden braided hair is smiling. Her round face looks smooth and shiny like porcelain, and her colourful clothes feel soft and warm to the touch.
